Glendora Police Department

If the Glendora Police Department has arrested you, a member of your family or a loved one, or is investigating a crime you may be involved in, it is only natural that you will need to know the bail amount associated with the offense, the requirements, both legal and factual, to convict one of the crime that allegedly took place, the potential defenses and the possible punishment a judge can impose if one is convicted of the crime.

Criminal cases involving arrests by the Glendora Police Department are now filed at the West Covina courthouse or, with more serious cases, at the Clara Shortridge Foltz criminal courts building (CCB) in downtown Los Angeles.

We at Greg Hill & Associates believe it is also prudent for one to know a few more things before interacting with any police or sheriff’s department.  It is good to know the size of the police department, the city’s demographics, the most frequent types of crime the department investigates and just a bit about the city’s history to understand how the police may regard the alleged crime.  It can also make one’s communication with law enforcement more meaningful, more savvy and perhaps, more respectful.  This can lead to a better outcome than if one lacks such perspective.

This article is presented with this goal in mind.

The Glendora Police Department’s Patrol Bureau has 56 employees, comprised of four (4) Lieutenants, seven (7) Sergeants, four(4) Corporals, twenty-one (21) sworn Officers, eight (8) Police Service Representatives (dispatchers), five (5) Jailers, five (5) Reserve Police Officers, and two (2) Community Services Officers (CSO).

The Glendora Police Department Investigations Bureau is comprised of one (1) Lieutenant, one (1) Sergeant, seven (7) Investigators, one (1) Investigator assigned to Drug Enforcement Agency Southwest Border Drug Task Force, one (1) Investigator assigned to the CALMMET Methamphetamine Task Force (grant-funded), one (1) Community Services Officer (Evidence/Property Specialist), one (1) Court Officer (PSRII), one (1) Records Specialist, and one (1) part-time Cadet who handle Subpoena Service/Witness Coordination for court and assist with evidence processing.

As of the 2020 census, the population of Glendora was 52,558.  This is larger than average city within Los Angeles County, so the high number of officers on staff in the Glendora Police Department is expected.   The city is relatively large, too, covering 19.66 square miles.
As of the 2010 Census, the racial makeup of the city was 75.1% White (57.0% Non-Hispanic White), 1.9% Black or African American and 8.0% Asian.  30.7% of the population identifies as Hispanic or Latino.

Crime in Glendora is generally lower than in other communities of comparable size and population.  Burglary (residential and commercial) is  the most frequent crime, followed by auto burglary and motor vehicle theft, followed by assault and vandalism.

The downtown area as it appears now is the product of years of renovation and maintenance by the city.  The former opera house, movie theatre, Pacific Electric station, banks, hotels, grocery and department stores were converted into more modern commercial buildings.

Several wildfires have affected the city in recent years, the most notable being the campfire triggered Colby Fire, which displaced hundreds of Glendora residents.  A relief concert titled "Glendora Band Aid" was held shortly after the fire to help raise funds to assist the homeowners who lost their homes in the fire.

According to the 2010 United States Census, Glendora had a median household income of $74,615, with 7.8% of the population living below the federal poverty line.  Housing costs in Glendora are among some of the highest in the nation, although real estate prices here do not compare to real estate prices in the most expensive communities in California.

A relatively large number of people in Glendora telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 13.18% of the workforce works from home.

While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country.  These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions.  For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute.  Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.
