Orange County Sheriff's Department - Villa Park Station

If you, a loved one or a family member have been arrested by or are being investigated by the Villa Park station of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, it can cause a lot of apprehension, mostly just from fear of the unknown.  Moreover, one is dependent upon the honesty and competence of a deputy sheriff, who may or may not be experienced or have the same sense of urgency for accuracy and thoroughness as you.

Facing such a situation, knowing the bail amount (if any) associated with the offense or offenses at issue if the sheriffs deny an own recognizance (OR) release may help.  It is also good to know what evidence is needed to convict one for the crime or crimes that allegedly took place, the defenses possible and the sentence a judge can impose if a jury convicts one of the crime or crimes.

We at Greg Hill & Associates believe it is smart to know a few more things before interacting with any branch of law enforcement.  It can be helpful to know the size of the police or sheriff’s department, the area’s approximate demographics, the most common types of crimes the department investigates and just a bit about the area’s history to make one’s communication with law enforcement more meaningful, more savvy and perhaps, more respectful.  This can lead to a better outcome than if one lacks such perspective or knowledge.

This article is presented with these goals in mind.

The Villa Park station of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department is a very small station with an undisclosed number of sworn deputy officers and an unspecified number of civilian support personnel assigned to it.

The Villa Park Police Department is responsible for patrolling the City of Villa Park,

The city is 2.08 square miles and has a population of 5.812 as of the 2010 census.  Villa Park has one of the lowest crime rates in Orange County.

According to Neighborhood Scout, however, Villa Park has an overall crime rate of 9 per 1,000 residents, making the crime rate here near the average for all cities and towns of all sizes in America.  According to analysis of FBI crime data, one’s chance of becoming a victim of crime in Villa Park is 1 in 108.  Villa Park's crime rate is lower than approximately 81% of California communities.

However, compared to other communities of similar population size, Villa Park has a crime rate that is noticeably lower than the average.  This means that for comparably sized cities all across America, Villa Park is actually safer than most according to Neighborhood Scout's exclusive analysis of FBI crime data.

Villa Park was known as "Mountain View" in the 1860’s.  The U.S. Post Office refused to allow the local post office to be so named because there was already a post office with that name in Santa Clara County (near what would later become Stanford University, which was founded in 1885).  The area then renamed itself Villa Park after an Illinois town.  It was then an agricultural area producing, in turn, grapes, walnuts and apricots.  Finally, citrus became the major crop for about 60 years.

As of 2010, the city’s population was 71.9% non-Hispanic white, 14.7% Asian, 0.7% African American and 10.3% Hispanic.  In the year 2000, the median income for a household in the city was $116,203.

66.0% of the city's 4,533 registered voters declared their affiliation with the Republican party. 17.3% are registered Democrats, and 14.3% were unaffiliated voters.

Kevin Costner, the actor, graduated from Villa Park High School in 1973, as did Garrett Cochran, a sub-4 minute miler while at University of California, Berkeley.  Freddy Freeman of the Dodgers also lives in Villa Park.

Cases arising out of Villa Park are brought at the Central Justice Center at 700 Civic Center Driver West in downtown Santa Ana.
Over the last 25 years, our office has never handled a case arising out the Villa Park Police Station and brought in the Santa Ana Courthouse.  After all, it is a very small city.  However, we would expect such cases to vary from DUI to domestic violence, to public intoxication, to shoplifting.
